Preposition "By" এর ব্যবহার

Rule-1:

কোনো ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর পাশে বা কাছে বা নিকটে থাকা বুঝাতে By বসে।

যেমনঃ

⇨ He sat------ me.

⇨ Our house is ------ the river.

Rule-2:

কোনো কিছুর অনুসারে অনুসারে বুঝাতে By বসে। তাই, ঘড়ি অনুসারে বা ঘড়িতে সময় দেখতে By বসে।

যেমনঃ

⇨ What is the time ------ your watch.

⇨ Now it is just 12 O'clock ------ my watch.

Rule-3:

যোগাযোগ মাধ্যম বুঝাতে Telephone, phone, fax, email, letter, post ইত্যাদির পূর্বে By বসে।

যেমনঃ

⇨ We take order ------ phone. 

Rule-4

যাতায়াত মাধ্যম বুঝাতে বা গমনার্থে by বসে।

যেমনঃ

⇨ We can go there ----- land.

⇨ We can go ------ air.

⇨ We can go ------ water.

⇨ We can go ------ boat.

⇨ We can go ------ bus.

⇨ We can go ------ launch.

⇨ We can go ----- steamer.

⇨ We can go ------ train.

ব্যতিক্রম নিয়ম

১। যাতায়াত মাধ্যম বুঝাতে foot এর পূর্বে on বসবে।

Example:

⇨ Rabi comes to work ----- car but I prefer to come ------ foot. 

২। যাতায়াত মাধ্যম বুঝাতে horseback এর পূর্বে on বসবে।

৩। যাতায়াত মাধ্যম হিসেবে bike, boat, bus, train, plane, car, taxi ইত্যাদির পূর্বে কোনো determiner থাকলে অথবা এদের Plural form (s/es) ব্যবহৃত হলে তার পূর্বে on বসবে; আর একাকী থাকলে থাকলে এদের পূর্বে by বসবে। কিন্তু car/taxi এর পূর্বে determiner ব্যবহৃত হলে তার পূর্বে Preposition হিসেবে in বসবে। 

যেমনঃ 

by bike কিন্তু on my bike

by bus কিন্তু on the bus, on buses

By boat কিন্তু on the boat, on a boat

By car কিন্তু in my car

By taxi  কিন্তু in a taxi

Examples:

⇨ Our school ------ the main road.

⇨ I walked to work but I came home ------ the taxi. 

⇨ There are fifty passengers ------ the bus.

⇨ I went there ------ my bike.
